The term “metaverse” does not specifically refer to a new type of technology, but rather a broad shift in how we will interact with technology. Broadly speaking, all of the technologies that make up the metaverse can include virtual reality that also can combine the aspects of the digital and physical world. The metaverse also translates to a digital economy, where people can create, buy and sell goods and services. Users will be able to have an interoperable experience, which allows you to take virtual items such as cars or clothes from one platform to another as well. In short, the metaverse allows online users to immerse themselves in the experience of online gaming, shopping, interacting with others and more through the use of virtual avatars.

It can be difficult to fully grasp what this all means, but you may already be familiar with similar platforms such as World of Warcraft and Fortnite. These two games are virtual worlds where players can buy and sell goods and have virtual. Released in 2003, Second Life was widely considered to be the first metaverse, so this concept is definitely not new.

This is important for our future because platforms like the metaverse will continue to grow in popularity with gaming, shopping, and collaborating. Soon platforms like Teams and Zoom may begin to adopt a more virtual-reality type experience. This will even lead to businesses having to step up to stay competitive. Companies may have to invest in AR/VR technologies to keep up with their ideal audience in the metaverse.

Overall, the metaverse is not going anywhere and will continue to evolve and grow to fit a variety of initiatives including learning, gaming, shopping and business. Remaining safe in the metaverse will be paramount early on since the technology is still really young. Users should be cautious about sharing information or making purchases in the metaverse. The metaverse is most popular with the early adopters of technology but will continue to grow until it becomes an unspoken part of the business world. We look forward to seeing it evolve and helping our customers navigate the advances in technology!
